Boss Arenas

From ARK: Survival Evolved Wiki

On The Island, there are currently three Arenas for fighting the game's bosses: Broodmother Icon.png Broodmother Lysrix, Megapithecus Icon.png Megapithecus, and the Dragon.png Dragon.

The DLC: The Center replaces Broodmother and Megapithecus with an arena where both must be defeated at the same time.

The Manticore Arena is featured in the DLC: Scorched Earth where players must defeat the Manticore.png Manticore.

Location[edit | edit source]

The Arenas are located under each of the three Obelisks. To reach these locations, players must go to either a Beacon or Obelisk and place the required tribute items inside, then click on the Broodmother Portal.png Generate Broodmother Portal, Megapithecus Portal.png Generate Megapithecus Portal, or Dragon Portal.png Generate Dragon Portal items. At this point a portal will be opened to teleport nearby players and dinos into the arena.

The Center Arena is featured in the DLC: The Center. It is accessed via a Beacon or Obelisk.

Notes[edit | edit source]

Arena Requirements[edit | edit source]

  • In order to be teleported into the arena AND out of the arena, you MUST be dismounted.
    • If you are on a dino when you get teleported in, you will simply not be teleported with your dinos.
    • If you are on a dino when you get teleported out, you will be instantly killed and permanently lose everything you had on your inventory.

XBOX Private vs Official Servers[edit | edit source]

It is currently impossible to replicate official settings on private, the bosses difficulty is hard-coded and the game prevents you from setting the boss to the same hardness as official. Even though the settings allow you to set the server difficultly to 5, this setting does not fully carry over to the arenas...

Many users upload boss fight videos to youtube with titles such as "Official Settings", claiming to simulate the same fight that would take place on Official. Unfortunately, all of these videos are misleading and should not be used as a point of reference when preparing for a fight on an official server. Despite selecting the same settings on a private server that Official has, such as Difficulty 5 and even the "Maximum Difficulty" setting, you will never get the same difficulty as Official, the main difference is an enormous health boost on Official. Last tested 4 March 2017, tests shown bosses on Private (easy boss) have as little as 720,000 health on the hardest possible settings, whilst on Official they have much more. A battle on private max settings lvl 124 boss replicated on official vs lvl 124 boss resulted in roughly 1/3rd less damage on official in the same time (15 minutes), with similar weaponry.

If you follow any videos on youtube, make sure they are being played on an official server and not just with "official settings". this information in such videos is deeply misleading and flat out incorrect and cannot be relied upon.

Equipment and Structure Restrictions[edit | edit source]

  • No structures may be placed in the arenas. So avoid forming plans that revolve on building. If you attempt to place anything, the message "No ground or snap point available" will be displayed.
    • Grappling hooks may be taken into the arena, but once equipped in a crossbow they cannot be fired. (May be related to why Thylacoleo does not teleport into arena.) (Not tested on Manticore.)
