Disambig.png This article is about Megapithecus Icon.png Megapithecus, not to be confused with Gigantopithecus Icon.png Gigantopithecus or Mesopithecus Icon.png Mesopithecus

Megapithecus is a Boss in ARK: Survival Evolved with its lair in the freezing north. Not much is known about this mysterious creature.

In Survival of the Fittest, it can be tamed and ridden, along with the Broodmother and the Dragon. One of its attacks allows the Megapithecus to pick up large rocks and throw them, easily breaking structures and damaging large groups of dinosaurs.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

The Megapithecus highly resembles an incredibly oversized modern-day gorilla with dark silver skin and very long and thick white fur. Scars that reveal flesh and straps of tissue appear on the upper-right portion of the chest-piece, the front-facing section of the right shoulder, and most of the right side of its face. The origin of those scars remain a mystery. Its left eye is brown while its right eye is blind and white.

Color Scheme and Regions

The Megapithecus always spawns with the same color scheme and has no color regions.

This means it is currently impossible to make alterations to the Megapithecus's natural spawn colors.

Colors[edit | edit source]

The Megapithecus has different types of color due to its difficulty level:

Difficulty Level Color
Easy White-Blue
Medium Green
Hard Yellow

Location[edit | edit source]

The Megapithecus can only be found in the Megapithecus Arena or in The Center Arena. To reach this location, players must go to either a Beacon or Obelisk and place the required tribute items inside, then click on the Megapithecus Portal.png Generate Megapithecus Portal or Center Portal item. At this point a portal will be opened to teleport nearby players and dinos into the arena.

Wild Stats Level-up

Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding-stats with an external tool.[1]

The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps

Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.

Combat[edit | edit source]

This section describes how to fight against the Megapithecus.

General[edit | edit source]

Use Rockets and RPGs

Strategy[edit | edit source]

The Megapithecus' "rock throw" has a rather large AOE. Try to spread out to minimize its effect.

Weaponry[edit | edit source]

Use powerful tames, including a Rex group, a legion of raptors, or 10-20 carnotaurus.

Dangers[edit | edit source]

It spawns Gigantopithicus to fight with it, it has a long melee reach, and its boulder throw ability has a large AOE.

Weakness[edit | edit source]

Its boulder throw ability can be used against it to hit its allies. It has a fast cool down to its throw so use hit and run to maximize damage.

Notes/Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Its name was originally ??? but was then renamed by the user BlackFish to Megapithecus. (The creator of the Survivors Wildlife Appendix on the steam forums.) Later Wildcard Studios adopted the name and made it official.[2][citation needed]
  • Dossier revealed on 07/24/15
  • Its name is similar to that of the Gigantopithecus, this may indicate a relation to this territorial ape.
  • The rings surrounding the Megapithecus in its dossier are written in Daedric from The Elder Scrolls series.
  • if Megapithecus is tamed using the forcetame command, it cannot sprint, jump, or use its chest-pound animation.
