The Allosaurus (AL-uh-SAWR-us) is one of the Creatures in ARK: Survival Evolved.
Basic Info
Dossier
This section is intended to be an exact copy of what the survivor Helena Walker, the author of the dossiers, has written. There may be some discrepancies between this text and the in-game creature.
- Wild
Smaller but faster than Tyrannosaurus, larger but slower than Carnotaurus, Allosaurus therotribus is the island's resident pack-hunting theropod. While most aggressive theropods are relatively solitary creatures, Allosaurus lives in groups of 3-4. One Allosaurus is the Alpha, while the others are its mates or a beta male.
- Known Information
Like humans find value in forming a tribe, the Allosaurus has evolved to hunt in packs. Its saw-shaped teeth leave its prey bleeding and maimed, making escape difficult. Once an Allosaurus slows a creature with its cutting bite, the rest of its pack quickly close in for the kill...
- Domesticated
Not everyone thinks a tamed Allosaurus is ideal. Those who value speed generally tame Carnotaurus, while those who value raw stopping power tame Tyrannosaurus. However, riders of Allosaurus tend to value the utility of its Alpha pack status, which along with its bleed-inducing attacks and relative mobility, can effectively turn the tide of a combined arms battle.
Behavior
The Allosaurus is aggressive to most, if not all, other Dino's including other carnivores. Even without a pack, an allosaur will still engage almost anything.
Pack
Allosaurus always spawn in packs of 3, but packs will merge if they encounter each other. As long as a pack has 3 or more Allosaurs in it, the allosaur with the highest level will receive a pack boost, which can be identified by a glowing red aura, similar to that of an Alpha Predator. The pack boost applies to both wild and tamed Allosaurs and provides the following benefits:
- Increases damage done by 50%
- Reduces damage taken by 25%
- An extra attack (default Rmb) that slows the target and does bleeding damage
- The ability to roar while tamed and mounted (default C) When the Alpha roars, the others in its pack will also roar.
These buffs only apply to the Allosaurus with the Alpha Boost, however in larger packs, multiple Allosaurus can sometimes become the Alpha.
Appearance
To the untrained eye, an Allosaurus looks like a large Carno or small Rex, but closer inspection reveals key differences. An Allosaurus has larger arms than a Rex or Carno and a more athletic look. The Allosaurus has scattered plates on its head and back, and crests above its eyes. The alpha allosaur can be easily identified by the glowing orange aura upon its back (although take care that you haven't actually spotted an Alpha Predator). Lone Allosaurs can be distinguished by size alone.
This section displays the Allosaurus's natural colors and regions. For demonstration, the regions below are colored red over an albino Allosaurus. The colored squares shown underneath each region's description are the colors that the Allosaurus will randomly spawn with to provide an overall range of its natural color scheme. Hover your cursor over a color to display its name and ID.
This information can be used to alter the Allosaurus's regions by entering cheat SetTargetDinoColor <ColorRegion> <ColorID>
in the cheat console. For instance, cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6
would color the Allosaurus's "body" magenta.

Wild Stats Level-up
Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]
The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps
Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.

KO Strategy
The Allosaurus has high torpor, similar to a Rex, but it tames fast if you can knock it out. The best way to knock out an Allosaurus is to single one out, or to get on a giant rock. Be careful not to kill the others while taming it though, because a lone Allosaurus will run around attempting to find another group. However, if you can lure an Allosaurus into an enclosure for taming, you can safely deal with the remaining pack members. This strategy in particular is useful if you want to tame the Alpha Allosaurus, as separating and killing its packmates will remove its Alpha buff. Be careful, as higher levels are easy to kill with Bows and Crossbows if you do not pause between shots.
The main issues with taming one or more Allosaurus is the simple fact that they spawn and travel in packs of three, and reside in relatively dangerous areas. Solo attempts require a very careful approach because if the Allos do not manage to get you, then other carnivores might. The best way to do this is to find a tall rock, preferably landed on by a flyer, and tranq one or all of the Allos in the pack. After you hit an Allo with a tranq, they should all target you. When they get to your rock, continue to shoot them, aiming for the head and pausing between shots, especially when using a crossbow. After a while, they will begin to run off to decrease their torpor intake. Be wary, as they could run off entirely, or they will begin to run in circles. If you have good aim, and a good amount of tranqs, you will eventually bring them down. If you decide to chase them down, it is best done with a quetzal and a quick aim.
Combat
This section describes how to fight against the Allosaurus.
General
Don't attempt to take out the pack leader first - take out the others and it will lose its pack leader status. If the pack has 4 or more in it, then killing the pack leader will just promote a different one.
Strategy
You can kill them one by one using ranged weaponry. Be sure to have some kind of safe area where they can't hit you. It is not recommended to take on a pack of Allosaurs unless you have a pack of creatures yourself.
Weaponry
Ranged weaponry, or a pack of dinos is better. Keep your distance.
Dangers
A single Allosaurus is dangerous. A pack of Allosaurs is lethal. The bleed effect inflicted by a lead Allosaur will ensure that survivors who manage to escape from a fight will continue taking damage, so it's best to cut your losses early if you think you might lose. Their jack-of-all-trades approach to speed and power along with the pack mentality will mean taking on a group is foolish if approached like a straight fight. Survivors need at least 158% Movement Speed (29 level-ups) to be able to outrun the Allosaurus. Can not be carried by Quetzals.
Weakness
Compared to other large carnivores such as the Rex, a single Allosaur does not have a lot of health. Take into consideration that the alpha Allosaur takes 25% less damage than its packmates, leaving singling the alpha out easier than approaching them all head-on.
Utility
Roles
- Travel: Because most other dinosaurs won't attack it (with the exception of large creatures like Rexes or other Allosaurus), Allosaurus makes an excellent travel mount. They also boast a decent movement speed and weight comparable to Trikes. (Level Stamina and Weight)
- Hunting: Although Allosaurus gets a massive Alpha bonus, it is just as viable as a lone hunter. Their fast base speed allows them to back off against most enemies, avoiding any damage completely. Also having the fastest attack speed compared to Carno and Rex, it provides a constant knockback.
- Compared to a Rex, it has less DPS, less Health and less range. But it is faster and with alpha-bonus, it deals more DPS. Also, it can hunt easier in a pack due to its size.
- Compared to a Carno, it is completely superior. In spite of the Allosaurus' Dossier stating that the Carno is faster, the Allosaurus is much faster. And while the base damage of the Carno is higher, its high attack speed allows the Allosaurus to have higher DPS.
- Compared to wolves, Allosaurus does similar damage but has much greater durability. Their alpha boost has been implemented, while it appears to have been left out of wolves for the moment. They are faster but less agile than wolves, can't jump, and individuals are much more likely to get stuck on trees or other obstacles. Finally, they spawn more rarely and in lower numbers and are more difficult to tame, so it will take more time to assemble a pack of any given size.

**This is information taken from a first-hand account raising the Allosaurus please excuse any possible inaccuracies as this is to help build an understanding for future breeding calculator tool information**
***Important to note: Official Server PVE NA 82 during the time of this breeding, specifically at the Incubation, Baby Phase and the final minutes until completion, the servers intermittently went down for separate minor updates to the recent large update. This is where any possible inaccuracies and general vagueness come into play.***
The Allosaurus breeding information gathered from a personal account is as follows:
Total Maturation Frame of Time - Saturday 9/3/16 at 10:05pm through Tuesday 9/6/16 at 1:10am.
- Egg Incubation: Approximately 2 Hours 45 Minutes.
- Baby Phase: Approximately 6 Hours 15 Minutes
- Juvenile Phase: Approximately 20 Hours
- Adolescent Phase: Approximately 22 Hours
Approximate Total Breeding Time is 2 Days, 3 Hours and 5 Minutes.
The Allosaurus Egg Incubated with no issues in an enclosed room surrounded by 9 Air Conditioners in close proximity.
The Imprinting Scheduling was in 3 Hour 45 Minute Increments while increasing by 9% each. This would imply around 12 Imprints available if timed appropriately.
Final Note: With knowing the imprinting schedule times and percent increase each, there are obvious inaccuracies with the math within a degree of 5–6 hours. Any additional information should absolutely be added or edited from here. This is the most accurate model possible for the Allosaurus Breeding Information available at the current time.

Notes/Trivia
For information pertaining specifically to the real-world Allosaurus, see the relevant Wikipedia article.
- The dossier was revealed on 08/26/15 [2]
- Real-life Allosaurus had a weak bite, but a reinforced skull and powerful neck muscles. Some paleontologists have argued that they used their upper jaw as a hatchet, incapacitating their prey with repeated blows.
- Sometimes when there are four or more Allosauruses in a pack, there are multiple Allosaurs with the Alpha boost. It might be because there are enough for two or more packs out of the larger pack that was formed.
- The Allosaurus has a different roar in its spotlight trailer than in the game.
- Despite the dossier stating it is slower than the Carnotaurus, the Allosaurus actually has a faster sprint. It does however lose stamina faster than the Carnotaurus does.
- The scientific name of Allosaurus Therotribus means: 'Allosaurus Beast tribe'.
