WIKI Announcement!

This is a wiki for the game, we're not developers despite what you may think about it, so we really can't adjust your problems with the game. If you're having ingame issues or anything unrelated to the wiki, your best bet is to check out if there's a fix at the Steam Forums for the game. We'll most likely delete any pages you make that are unrelated to the wiki. If you have some ideas for helping people with their issues, feel free to make a Guide, as people seem to be having quite a few issues and are unable to find a fix. I'm sure they'd be super grateful. --Z3ther (talk) 22:19, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

I have cleaned up any thing thats not relevant to the issues on this wiki --SharpShot gif (talk) 14:28, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

PSA: New Chatroom

Courtesy of Alianin, we now have an official chat room for real-time communication between users. The chat is open to the public and can be found at ARK Survival Evolved Wiki:IRC. A link to this has been added on the Commmunity Portal and will possibly be added to the main page as well. --Mr Pie 5 (talk) 05:32, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

Lua Error

Not sure if this is something admins can help with, but since I am no programmer I have no clue who might be able to help with this. I have on numerous pages of this site encountered the following error: Lua error: Cannot create process: proc_open(): fork failed - Cannot allocate memory Try as I might, I found no solution for this anywhere on the site. Any idea what causes this? Is this a problem with the database or something on my end?

RanekEisenkralle (talk) 16:40, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

We are getting reports of these errors across multiple wikis and are looking into it. Thank you for your reporting of the issue. We'll let you know once it's resolved. --Alianin (talk) 17:37, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
It should be resolved on this wiki now. Please let us know if you encounter any further errors. --Alianin (talk) 18:50, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

I have not encountered the LUA-error since your fix, so whatever you did it seems to be working. Hence this issue can probably be considered resolved. RanekEisenkralle (talk) 15:46, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

German Translation

Hey everybody, I would like to contribute a german translation to the wiki. But I'm totally new, so I have no idea how to start an official translation of the different pages. Is here someone who has experience with that?

Transferring items from Scorched Earth to The center, Dedicated Server ps4

I've been doing some research about this and i have found different answers. This way i'd like to know how it for sure. It concerns stealing wyvern eggs, transfering them to the center on a dedicated ps4 server.

Little background information: I have 2 ps4's and me and a friend are going to use 1(the old ps4) as a server to host the center. Our plan is to first make a dedicated server on the map Scorched Earth on the new ps4 so my friend can play on his ps4, steal the eggs, upload them on SE and then download them on the old ps4 (The center map). My questions: Is this possible? I have read that, because it is a wyvern egg, the stats of the parents will get lost in the transfer and a lv 149 egg wil just become a lv 1 wyvern when hatched. Is it even possible to transfer between dedicated servers/private servers on ps4? Final question: do we need to have the servers on different ps4's or can we just use the same ps4 for SE and The center, so basically steal the eggs, upload them, exit the server, load a new the center server and download them. Or will the data of the eggs be gone because you 'overwrite' a new map? Or are both the maps still on the ps4?

Sorry for the long and complicated post, but we don't want to spawn the dragons in and forcetame them. Thanks in advance! Btiest (talk) 11:41, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

In-game trouble

So in short I was trying to tame a low level tuschotutheus (sp?) on a 269 mosa in official xbox server 212 and lost it (not to mention the journeymen scuba gear with it but i care more about the mosasaurus) when it grabbed my mosa and kept putting it under the map. The squid kept grabbing it and killed me so i respond on the bed on the mosa and it wouldn't let me ride the mosa despite the prompt to ride it (this happened just off the back of carno island at the edge of the map) i was killed again after trying to whistle the mosa and swim to the surface, i went back to continue the process of getting the mosa to the surface when it was gone along with the squid when i went back. I have whistled and swam all over looking for it but to no avail. PLEASE if you can it was a lot of kibble to tame and time and anything you can do to fix the issue would be amazing. thank you for your time Abalfazar (talk) 03:41, 23 January 2017 (UTC)abalfazar

Unable to add links to an article

Hi, I am trying to add an indented bullet point to the Thylacoleo article's Trivia section. Since it includes links in the form of 3 citations, it will not let me save my edits. Apparently I am supposed to contact an administrator for this.

I can't even display the text I'm trying to add because it gives the same "New user adding link at end or in heading" 'abuse rule', despite the fact that I added code and nowiki tags to disable the markup. Does anybody know what's going on here? --ThesaurusRex84 (talk) 07:29, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

That's the abuse filter. There reference links in that line are what is triggering it for you since you're a new user. Make a couple edits not touching a line with a link and after that you should be ok. --Alianin (talk) 16:47, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Glossary (and standardised terms)

There are a number of terms used interchangeably and vaguely throughout the wiki. I think it would be helpful if we had a glossary page to clearly define terms, and thereby help to standardise vocabulary selection across the pages, and help players to discuss topics accurately.

As I have been working on renewable resources today, there were a number of words that stood out. I am sure there are more across the wiki, and the glossary would be a great place to identify and define these slippery words.

Gather vs Harvest. To my mind, gathering is done with an empty hand (eg: picking up what i have termed ground litter (small stones, bits of wood/thatch), harvesting is done with tools. That being said, mining is a type of gathering, but is breaking a rock really mining? These words have been used, along with 'obtaining' in random fashion across the wiki.

Resources. Oh what a can of worms. I have 'defined' a difference between renewable resources (which are really resource nodes, but I think that we should avoid the word 'node' where possible, maybe folks disagree) and the resources that they produce. Thus trees and rocks, salt pillars and crystal outgrowths are renewable resources, whereas stone flint and so on are resources. There seems to be a lot of cross-over with these terms. 'nodes', 'rocks and boulders' etc are found everywhere. Arguably, all resources are renewable, so maybe better terms are required. The point being to differentiate between the spawnable objects that players interact with, and the crafting ingredients they get from them.

Stats. Eg Melee Damage. Sometimes just stats, sometimes something else, sometimes qualified with player or creature or whatever. Shouldn't there be a link somewhere to stats in general, and how they work as well as defining the std term to use?

Levels. I have a level 5000 Griffin, with 50 Levels/Points spent in oxygen, and whose weight level is 4000. <groan> Of course, being level-headed about this, whilst in level flight just makes it worse, but still... when I get to the breeding sections all hell is gunna break loose :-p 𝑪𝒓𝒖𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒚 (talk) 20:15, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

If there's one thing I know for sure, it's that the term "resource node" HAS to come into play. The "renewable resources" page should definitely be renamed into "resource nodes", because sentences like "it also harvests more resources from each renewable resource" (taken from Metal Pick) are more confusing than any naming we had until know. --TMHWK (talk) 22:44, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

You can also contribute to the discussion on upcoming wiki rules at the Wiki rules talk page.

Err, the vast majority of that page seems to have reached sensible consensus a long time ago, and is quite probably all actioned in the rules pages. Shouldn't such closed topics be archived so that only topics open for discussion remain, as indicated by the link on talk pages? 𝑪𝒓𝒖𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒚 (talk) 20:20, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

I believe some of the stats shown for the Ichtyornis are incorrect.

Hi, have been looking at the Ichtyornis and i believe the Level 1 starter stat for its health should be 50 (not 100) and its level up amount wild should be +10 (not +20) I have no idea what to do to make changes on the wiki or time to investigate into it, but if someone wanted to review/correct this that would be good, thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.157.203.128 (talkcontribs) at 14:41, 26 October 2017‎ 109.157.203.128. Creature Icons Are No Longer Color Coded?

Whenever you click on a creature of any kind, scrolling to the bottom of the page reveals an icon based index of all creatures in game. Now, I realize that you're only color coding creature icons that are 100% exclusive to SE ATM but I think that is a huge mistake. The whole point of color coding is to make things easy to navigate/distinguish. All Scorched Earth creature icons ought to have the tan coloring like they did previously and all Aberration creature icons ought to have a lavender coloring. This is about ease of access not your personal grudges about exclusivity. I honestly cannot think of any other reason to remove the color coding other than being sore that these creatures aren't "true exclusives."

Well regardless, they exist because of these DLCs, are intrinsically tied to these DLCS, and they ought to be categorized as such. That's my two cents.

— Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.129.7.125 (talkcontribs) at 16:47, 19 December 2017‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Hi, that was not intentional. So far, the color-coding algorithm looked for a DLC-name and colored them if the strings were equal. If a creature is not exclusive to a DLC, the entry is something like "Scoreched Earth, Aberration" and there is no match anymore if checking for only "Scorched Earth", and the creature is not colored. I changed the algorithm so all creatures appearing in ScE have a yellow background, and all creatures in Ab have a lavender background. I'm not sure if that is what people would expect, e.g. IMO the anky doesn't feel like a ScE- or Ab-creature, even if it appears on all maps. Also, some people might find a creature belongs rather to Aberration than to ScE or vice versa. Maybe there should be multicolor-backgrounds? Could be too confusing. If you have design-suggestions regarding this, let us know. --Cadaeib (talk) 22:08, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
You're right actually, it's definitely not what people would expect. But seeing as it's a computer algorithm doing all this you're bound to run into some bumps... I wish there was something we could have it look for so that it would only color creatures that came FROM the DLC and not just all creatures that spawn in it... For Vanilla creatures that appear in DLC, perhaps a small colored dot in the corner? Although one of the Devs recently said that Aberrant creatures actually have disparate stats from their un-mutated counterparts, so they might honestly need their own pages in the long run...
Also I apologize for my tone and thank you for your gracious response. I didn't realize how hostile I sounded. I guess I still have a chip on my shoulder from my White Knight days...
74.129.7.125 00:33, 20 December 2017 (UTC)Wyndninja

I don't mean to intrude the conversation, but I did like to point something out regarding the color coding. Selecting "- Map -" on maps other than TheIsland shows creatures that aren't exclusive to the map as well. Aberration is still showing only creatures new to ARK and exclusive in Aberration, and not those that had already existed in other map. I am aware they have the "aberrant" word on it, but will it be fixed so the selection shows them as well? Vaculity (talk) 05:41, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

74.129.7.125 14:56, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

On that note, I have thought of a way we could correctly color code everything. All expansion creatures could have a (ScE) for Scorched Earth or (Ab) for Aberration placed next to their name or in a Symbol Box beneath it. Have the algorithm look for those symbols and only those. Then expansion creatures will be correctly colored while all Vanilla creatures will remain white.

RU translation

Hello, I started translating Wiki into Russian, I've already translated a few pages, and I want to make a dedicated Wiki in Russian.Ywx9 (talk) 19:56, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Sorry for the response delay. I read about this while I was out and forgot about it once I got home.
The problem with a new subdomain right now is that the Ark wiki makes heavy use of SMW, an extension which is no longer allowed for new wikis. We are in the process of converting to Cargo, but it's pretty far from complete at the moment, and without either, a lot of the templates don't work (see this example from the -it translation, which I thought would be fine without SMW. It was not. It actually looks a little better than it should because I've gutted some of the broken templates over there, but a lot of functionality is gone.) For now, I think it would be easier and less broken for you if you stick to the English wiki with the /ru subpages until the conversion is finished.
However, if you decide that you really want the separate project early and are willing to tolerate a lack of functionality, it can still be arranged. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Need to be able to edit incorrect data on immobilization

The page here:

List of Creatures Immobilized by Traps

contains a number of errors on which creatures can be immobilized by what methods, such as:

  • Thorny dragon is NOT immobilized by bolas.
  • Alpha Carnotaur/Alpha Raptor/ Alpha Rex - these creatures cannot be immobilized.

This immobilization data is also carried through to the page on each of these creatures, but seems it can only be edited by editing the immobilization data on the immobilization page. I can't see how to edit that. The page just references ImmobilityTable

Stormknightuk (talk) 21:56, 3 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi, the data in this list is taken directly from the devkit. It may be that there are some other parameters that prevent immobilization (e.g. for the alpha variants), despite the creatures are listed to be able to immobilized. Regarding the Thorny Dragon it seems strange, not being a special species, maybe the bola missed it?--Cadaei (talk) 10:23, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Hiya, I just double-checked in game, with damage numbers switched on (the bola does a visible zero damage when it hits) and the Thorny dragon is definitely NOT immobilised by a bola. This is already correct on the page for bola. With the alpha predators, I expect it is the alpha buff that grants them immunity. Stormknightuk (talk) 12:49, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

We probably found the reason for the wrong data, there seems to be some immunity-parameters to consider and also the drag-weight formula was wrong for some edge-cases like the thorny. We'll probably change the way the immobilisation is determined on the wiki, which should fix these errors. Thanks for the reports about this!--Cadaei (talk) 13:58, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Blocked discussion entry on Server Configuration

I've tried to add a new question/section to the discussion of Server Configuration. I don't know why, but it was blocked by the language filter for "Vandalism" and forwarded me to this page. Do you need more information? I also have (as requested) copied the content of the edit if you need it.

Thanks in advance Jurom (talk) 17:07, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

Hey, sorry about that. Your discussion title triggered the gibberish filter for having too many consonants in a row - not a false positive that comes up often. I've added your discussion to the page

Deleted Extension?

On the Humans page, at the bottom of the Base Stats and Growth section, there's some source code visible, that's using the #set function. Is that perhaps a leftover from a removed extension? Kronzky (talk)

Hi, thanks for the note. It's indeed a leftover from the removed SemanticMediaWiki-extension. This wiki now uses the Cargo-extension. I'll clean that up.--Cadaei (talk) 16:34, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

Corrupted info text in raft page

I did some minor edits on the Wooden Raft page (nothing in the infobox, though), and now it seems that the "Unlocks" entry in there is corrupted (at least on my PC).
This is how it looks for me: https://i.imgur.com/E0OxOFs.png
The strange thing is, if I go into "Edit source", and, without any changes, do a preview, it looks ok: https://i.imgur.com/oCQ84H9.png

Any idea what might be happening there? Kronzky (talk) 19:34, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the report. It's a known issue with the Cargo-extension. Purging the page (refreshing the server-cache) solves the issue, maybe non-admins can do this by opening the edit-window and save the page without changing anything (null-edit).--Cadaei (talk) 20:01, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

With regards to color codes for Extinction Dinos

Whiles its too early, something left me concerned. Alphas are colored as red, so if the red tint is used to denote Dead Earth-exclusive dino (too early, but I wanna bring this up), won't that clash with any possible Alphas around there? Vaculity (talk) 03:42, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Best way to deal with the future is to decide when you know all the facts and not just one assumption. --Flachdachs (talk) 07:21, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
