Rex Only Wiki-related posts
We cannot help you with ingame-issues like retreiving dinos, bugs or struggles with other players!

The Admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • Only wiki-related issues should be posted here. For support or suggestions regarding the game, try posting on the official forums at [1] or emailing the developers at support@studiowildcard.com.
  • This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post discussions on the talk page.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here. Deletion requests should be made by adding {{delete|reason for deletion request}} to the top of the target page, which will then automatically mark the page as a candidate for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene. If a user must be reported here, please use {{user}}, preferably as the topic subject/headline.

Current Issues

WIKI Announcement!

This is a wiki for the game, we're not developers despite what you may think about it, so we really can't adjust your problems with the game. If you're having ingame issues or anything unrelated to the wiki, your best bet is to check out if there's a fix at the Steam Forums for the game. We'll most likely delete any pages you make that are unrelated to the wiki. If you have some ideas for helping people with their issues, feel free to make a Guide, as people seem to be having quite a few issues and are unable to find a fix. I'm sure they'd be super grateful. --Z3ther (talk) 22:19, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

I have cleaned up any thing thats not relevant to the issues on this wiki --SharpShot gif (talk) 14:28, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

New infobox templates

I would like to share with you something that I've been working on this week: New infobox templates! They look a little different than the old ones, but I don't expect that to be an issue. What's exciting is that they allow more information to be added than before, and many of the parameters are now easier to use. The documentation for the templates is not done yet, but I don't think that should stop us from using them. Here's a list of templates and an example of what they look like, as I have already added them to a few select pages:

Template Example Page
{{infobox armor}} Cloth Hat Cloth Hat
{{infobox consumable}} Cooked Meat Cooked Meat
{{infobox item}} GPS GPS
{{infobox resource}} Stone Stone
{{infobox structure}} Campfire Campfire
{{infobox weapon}} Pike Pike

Please let me know if there's anything that can be improved, especially if any parameters need to be added. Also, I'll be adding an infobox specifically for creatures and recipes later. Oh, and I'm sorry about all the change log spam you've had to endure while I made this, such is the nature of a wiki.

I look forward to reading your thoughts! -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 18:16, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

Dang they look good, well done! I sneaked a peak on your user page a few days ago... :D --Z3ther (talk) 18:25, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! I also forgot to mention that the infoboxes are set up to intelligently manage categories, so hopefully everything will become a bit more organized now, category-wise. :] -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 18:34, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Very nice I do like them a lot nice work --SharpShot gif (talk) 18:10, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
Do you think we should start replacing the old info boxes with these? Since I'm going through a lot of pages adding xp, I could relatively easily change them to the new infobox template. Alex42000 (talk) 21:17, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
Replacing them is the plan, yes, but I'm working on a script for my bot to do this, but don't let that stop you from converting them if you want to! The script is mostly done, actually, I just haven't had the time to hook it up to my bot yet, been a bit busy in the last week. :] -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 18:52, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Kibbles

Should every kibble have its own page? This seems kind of redundant to me, as they only differ in recipe and dino. -- Minemodoverlord (talk) 15:44, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

There might still be information relevant to each kibble, so I don't see the harm. And being able to link directly to a specific kibble shouldn't be underestimated. -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 16:52, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
I made a page for all the rest of the kibbles that didn't already have a page and added a Nav Taming for them and other taming materials. Now they just need the amount of information that is on the scorpion kibble that I can't provide myself, as well as links form each animal to their preferred kibble, which I will Probably add myself.-- Minemodoverlord (talk) 18:51, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
Nice work! What is the information you cannot provide yourself? -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 13:31, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
The difference between the pulminoscorpius kibble and the rest of the kibble pages since I don't have the game or know where to find the graphics used on that page. -- Minemodoverlord (talk) 14:23, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
I see. I'm surprised you don't have the game considering how much you are contributing. :] -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 14:30, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
I know right? XD -- Minemodoverlord (talk) 01:10, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Also can someone add a preferred kibble to the creature infobox?-- Minemodoverlord (talk) 18:54, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
I added a kibble parameter to {{Infobox}}. -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 13:31, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I think I'll get right on that. -- Minemodoverlord (talk) 14:23, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello! Here at Gamepedia, we only host game wikis. If you'd like to get in contact with ARK developers, please utlize the game's Steam forums or email the developers at support@studiowildcard.com. Best, BriannaMCR (talk) 16:19, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Evening!
What exactly seems to be the problem here? Post isnt very coherent.
In regards to getting a refund, that would be down to Steam. If you are unhappy with a purchase you have just under a month to get a refund (but only if you have played under 2 hours of the game). Otherwise, best to contact the admins via email as BriannaMCR stated.

YOUTUBE ON WIKI

Hey so I recently got banned for apparently spamming the wiki with relevant videos. I have a few problems with this, firstly why was it just me and not the other youtubers? Additionally I got banned by stepping forward and saying that it was me that you guys was complaining about and tried to come to a solution, however I was ignored by the admins and you didnt take the time to confront me about this problem, I'm sorry but that is disgraceful, you are suppose to represent the community, and yet don't listen to them all. So whats the deal with that and posting you tube videos on this wiki? Additionally to explain my situation more clearly please refer to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlJiCcyMjog. I thank you for your time Mrcookiejunkie (talk) 19:10, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Mrcookiejunkie, actually you weren't ignored by the admins, since I felt like all your issues were addressed on the forums as you can see here. In regards to banning, @Mrcookiejunkie hasn't been blocked or banned, however your IP address (as shown in your video) WAS been banned because as you can see from your contributions you've ONLY added youtube videos and did nothing else to contribute to the wiki (which is highly looked down on in any wiki editing). However I went back and unblocked you, knowing that it was your account. In regards to listening to the community, we've left open the Wiki Rules open for Discussion for over a week, before applying the rules that the community voiced to the page, as well as a quite in-depth discussion on this page, so please don't accuse us of being disgraceful or not listening. You've had every chance to add your thoughts or contribute what you wanted to the building of the rules. That being said, please feel free to look over the rules for adding videos and if you think your videos qualify, you're welcome to list them on the talk pages in hopes to get approval. Good luck. --Z3ther (talk) 19:41, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
What difference did it make? You may as well have banned my account as I still couldn't edit the wiki, how was I suppose to when my IP was blocked? This meant that I didn't have " every chance to add your thoughts or contribute what you wanted to the building of the rules" seen as I was blocked hence my outrage now. And you didn't unblock me, my block ran out on the third of this month. As for your forum reply thank you and I had no idea that you had replied so thats my bad. Furthermore what is the deal with youtube videos on this forum then? Are they allowed or not? You guys seem to be dancing around giving a straight answer, and go have a look at the minecraft wiki and tell me that mine and everyone else s videos were pointless. Mrcookiejunkie (talk) 20:40, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Just to clear the blocking up you were unblocked as it shows Unbanned 2 days after the ban. You had a 2 week ban. I personally don't have a problem with your videos other than them not being scripted but everyone has their own likes and am sure I would vote them on to the pages submitted. --SharpShot gif (talk) 23:02, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Let me try to explain it so you can understand; As you can see from here your IP was banned and then unbanned two days later on July 22, The wiki rules discussion page was created on July 20th, with the video proposals themselves added to rules on the 23rd. Actual rules were added to the page itself on August 3rd which gave you basically two full weeks to add your voice including a site notice that was on the entire wiki for the weekend of the 24th. That being said, you're still welcome to voice your thoughts on the discussion page. In regards to videos, there's no dancing around whatsoever, you just seem uninterested in reading the links I've already given you above on the Wiki Rules or read the reasoning for the rules on the Discussion page. --Z3ther (talk) 23:11, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
I'd like to point out that the rules can be changed at any time if we feel they need to be, so you're still welcome to voice your opinions on them if you see room for improvement. Youtube videos are allowed after an approval process to ensure that they meet the wiki standards. The idea behind these new video rules is to keep clutter to a minimum and make quality information more easily accessible to our readers, so that they don't have to sort through multiple videos and sit through unrelated advertisements, whether commercial or personal, in those videos (I haven't watched your videos, so I don't know if you're guilty of this specific thing). The wiki is here to provide information about the game to the community; nothing more, nothing less. --Mr Pie 5 (talk) 03:22, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Oh, it made all the difference. When your IP address is banned, this only means that you cannot edit unless you are logged in, which you should be if you have an account. Simply logging in would have allowed you to edit, so you did indeed have every chance. Anyway, the answer is in the wiki rules linked above. You are free to propose your videos for inclusion in articles just as everyone else is. If you do a good job, this actually makes it more likely that your videos will stay up, as other videos won't replace them without a vote once they have been approved. Also, Minecraft is a more complex game, mechanically speaking, than ARK right now, and there are therefore more cases where videos make sense. (Nothing in ARK has the mechanical complexity of Redstone in Minecraft, for example.) Tutorial pages are also exempt from their video policy, and this is where you will find many of the videos. If you think tutorial pages as a concept would be useful on this wiki, please suggest it and we'll see what the community thinks. -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 21:12, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
1) Adding the same video to multiple pages isn't "relevant." 2) Other users had videos removed as well, including Crua9 (talkcontribslogsblock log), T1G0FF (talkcontribslogsblock log), and Thelyzardiam (talkcontribslogsblock log). 3) You have been confrontational in every encounter we've had with you--you're not helping yourself that way. I didn't have anything to add to the discussion on the admin noticeboard which is now archived, but not deleted, and I imagine other admins felt the same way. Our being admins doesn't mean that our word carries greater weight than regular users, except when it comes to enforcing agreed-upon policy and site rules etc. (Of course admins employed by Curse are a different story. This isn't a public forum--not in the First Amendment sense, anyway--and the right to Freedom of Speech therefore doesn't apply here, so you are basically at their mercy. And yet they let the community figure most things out.) 4) I have a problem with the video you link. First of all, your account was never blocked, despite your behavior. (Your IP was blocked, but was unblocked when Z3ther realized it was you.) Secondly, your videos were removed because you were spamming them, not because the videos were spam, a fact you completely misrepresent. Your behavior in this regard is uncouth and I would advise you to consider the consequences this could have in other venues. 5) While Z3ther is the one who removed the majority of your videos, I am actually the reason for this, as I compiled a list of your edits which showed that you contributed nothing of worth to the wiki and spent the majority of your edits adding or readding videos. (I am also the one who had to clean up after you completely butchered the shotgun articles, thanks for that.) 6) You're welcome. -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 21:12, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Ok so to start with I was banned for the full time as I came on everyday and couldn't edit the wiki, I guess its just one of those things though so my bad if you did un ban me. Furthermore I have read that link so thanks Z3ther that answers my question. And thank you mrpie for your addition I do understand why these rules have been put into place. Now IllegalOpcode to address your issues, I was logged in and was unable to edit and I was blocked for the full period of my ban to be honest though I really arn't that bothered about that seen as its been and gone so if that wasn't suppose to work like that then maybe you should notify the curse tech support or something for the wiki as its broken. Whilst the "mechanics" of minecraft maybe more complicated than ark I want you to go have a look at the video on the blocks page, this can be considered way more pointless then any of my videos. Now I would like to answer your points in order: 1. I only posted a double video for narcotic and tripwire traps as I put it into the same video to save time. 2. If you looked into this argument properly you'll know that I had an issue with everyone's videos being removed and was only annoyed that I was the only youtuber to get blocked. 3. Of course I've been confrontational that's the whole point of this debate, how can you expect users not to be when they have spent time creating something only to have it thrown back in their face, if you can't deal with people disagreeing with you and voicing their opinions then don't be an admin. 4. I answered this at the start of this conversation, and I resolved the issues of the "uncouth" look it up. And I'm just going to abandon the last few points in a summation, you seem very annoyed and aggravated toward me which I don't really appreciate, although I will understand when I see these articles I "butchered" before I accept any responsibility for that. And to be honest I've created a fair few pages and even sorted out some of the latest items to be added. Truth be told I love your response I got a good few laughs from it now can you grow up and directly show me what I've done wrong this whole time I've been trying to amend my wrongs hence why I came forward in the first place so don't sit there and have a go at me instead why not get someone who knows what there on about to arrange some sort of redeeming act that I could do. Thanks to everyone involved in this massive waste of time that I have been mostly responsible for Mrcookiejunkie (talk) 23:05, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
First off in regards to your "unban not working": Unless you're using multiple IP addresses that also were banned for only adding videos or spam, there's no reason you should have not had access to contribute to the wiki. The system at Gamepedia is in place and working quite well for those banned and unbanned over the last 5+ years. It seems as if you just left thinking you were banned and had to wait, as suggested by your lack of response on the forums, or obliviousness to the rules development. Second, this isn't the minecraft wiki, and wiki communities develop differently. The community at ARK has decided and will continue to decide on what is important in regards to videos/images and more and that's how the rules were drawn up. My annoyance is if you look at your contributions the only things you've added to the wiki besides videos/embeds and admin page conversation is this, this and this. If you're really interested in adding to the community, how hard is it to add more than 3 paragraphs in 52 edits of content outside of your personal videos? Regardless of what I think, if you think your videos are worthwhile to be on the wiki, read through the Wiki rules on how you can add them to pages. --Z3ther (talk) 01:19, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Lag when joining server

I just got Ark Survival Evolved and when I joined a server the game started to lag. This lag is so bad That i can not enjoy playing this game if i manage to play. The audio and game play are choppy and every thing is delayed by at least 1-2 seconds. I really hope you can help fix the problem so i can enjoy the game. 71.244.241.223 14:49, 7 August 2015 (UTC) Adam Peck 8/7/15

Hello Adam! Sorry to hear of your troubles. Unfortunately, we cannot help with issues directly related to the game. Instead, you should try posting on the Steam forums or emailing the developers at support@studiowildcard.com. Good luck! -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 20:23, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

can we create non public page?

Hello,

i would like to ask if i can create some pages/categorie/etc... that are not visible in the wiki?

i'm completely new to wiki, i would like to modify the modding categorie to make it more complete/usefull but since i don't know what i'm doing i would like to test on some page before going live :D

for example it seem i can create the categorie modding, then create a new one tutorial with modding as a parent, so doing that will only the page that have the modding/tutorial categorie will be displayed? or i did see that it seem we can't edit categorie listing, not changing it's style or anything ?

but i would mostly like to try the style system to use when creating page ^^ and see if how i would like to organized all the page work or not :D

so it is possible to make something like a private zone where i can create/modify page freely that other can't see until i choose it?

Wazalop (talk) 15:46, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi there! Nothing on this wiki is private, and there is no option to make it so. However, you can utilize your UserWiki for testing things such as layout etc., but please be mindful of categorizing things on that page, as they will be listed as usual. As for the style of category pages, they are indeed fixed, but feel free to create an overview page if you thank that will be of use! (Just keep in mind that such a page will need to be maintained going forward, and not necessarily by you, so don't duplicate too much information on it.) Also, the Gamepedia Help Wiki is an excellent place to get up to speed on all things wiki. -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 20:32, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
All users have a personal UserWiki page that they can use to work on formats, styles, templates, or whatever else they need before they release them into the wild. While it is still publicly visible, it is highly frowned upon to edit another user's personal wiki page without permission (I would personally consider it vandalism or harassment, both of which are ban-able offenses). Here is a link to your page, or you can go to your profile page and click "User wiki" in the upper left hand corner. --Mr Pie 5 (talk) 20:38, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Adding to the Guides page

Hello, admins! ARK wiki contributor ApexGlow is interested in having his Electricity Guide added to the main Guides page on the ARK wiki. Does this require an approval process? Please follow up with ApexGlow with your answer! Best, BriannaMCR (talk) 15:54, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

To my knowledge, there isn't really an approval process for that - just slap [[Category:Guides]] on the bottom of the page and let the merciless editing of the community run its course. --Mr Pie 5 (talk) 20:44, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Alright! Since there's no approval process, I went ahead and added the category! Thanks :) BriannaMCR (talk) 21:07, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
I think there is a lot of information in the guide that would be nice to have in the articles for the items! Also, I, personally, think the tone is too conversational, but that is a minor concern. :] -- IllegalOpcode (talk) 21:13, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
