Overview[edit | edit source]
The Bow is one of the primary hunting tools, and the first damage-oriented ranged weapon the player can unlock. It is most notable for its ability to fire Tranquilizer Arrows, making taming easier.
Usage[edit | edit source]
To load a type of arrows, just drag & drop the arrows on the bow in the inventory.
When loaded with Stone Arrows, the Bow can be used as a ranged weapon to hunt and kill other players or creatures.
When loaded with Tranquilizer Arrows, it can be used to knock other players or creatures unconscious by rapidly increasing their Torpor. The target will immediately gain Torpor equal to 200% of the damage dealt by the shot, plus an additional 250% over the next 4 seconds.
Most creatures will take about 2.5 times as much damage if you shoot them in the head. Torpor gain from Tranquilizer Arrows does scale with this boost.
Unlike the Crossbow, the Bow is incapable of firing underwater. You can stand above the water and fire into it, but the arrow won't go very far.
Notes/Tips[edit | edit source]
- Arrows fired from the Bow can usually be recovered by walking over the area of impact. However, they will be recovered as Stone Arrows, regardless of which type of arrow was fired. The arrows will sometimes break on impact or despawn before you can get to them, so they are not always recoverable.
- When using the Bow to knock out a creature you intend to tame, it is recommended to bring a spare Bow or the necessary resources to repair the one you have, as larger creatures will sometimes take more arrows than your bow can fire.
- The item description says, "Masters of the Bow often become great conquerors." This may be a reference to the Mongols under Genghis Khan, the great conqueror who captured much of Asia. Plus it’s a Mongolian style bow.
