ARK: Primal Survival is an upcoming Total Conversion for ARK: Survival Evolved. It was first announced at E3 2016 and planned for release in February 2017,[1] but is currently not in development. In this Total Conversion, players will be able to play, live, and breed as any of the ARK’s creatures. It will feature full survival mechanics and lifecycles, including mating, growing, recruiting more creatures to the "pack" and constructing primitive dens.

The playing experience will differ depending on which creature the player is taking control of. As a Raptor, players can communicate and coordinate tactical attacks on other species. As a Titanomyrma the focus is on survival against the elements and building a thriving colony centered around ant hills.

For now, there are 8 other creatures confirmed to be playable: Dire Bear, Direwolf, Mesopithecus, Argentavis, Araneo, Giganotosaurus, Beaver, Raptor, and Megalodon. However, it is implied that eventually all creatures will be playable. It is also hinted at that it will be possible to fight human players.

Notes[]

  • Currently, ARK: Primal Survival is not released.
  • No word has been given by Wildcard as to the state of development of the conversion since the trailer's release on June 13th, 2016. This has led many members of the community to believe that it has been silently cancelled by Wildcard.
  • For whatever reason, Wildcard never gave on official statement on why it was delayed or how long of a delay this mode was receiving until the forum community started pressuring them to speak about it. Despite not specifically stating that it was officially cancelled, there has been no more talk of it from the developers.
  • Ironically, one of the devs has expressed interest in doing official work on an unofficial mod that may become official in the near future. This mod is in fact the Play As a Dino mod. So instead of continuing or restarting work on an already officially announced game mode, that came with an official trailer, Wildcard may instead take someone else's modding work and implement it as if it were their own.
  • It's possible that this DLC announcement was April Fools as the 1st known trailer appeared as part of survival devolved
