Broodmother Arena, accessible via the Obelisks and Beacons

Broodmother Lysrix is one of the Bosses in ARK: Survival Evolved. To summon Broodmother Lysrix, the player needs to collect three of the eight Artifacts, head to an Obelisk or a Beacon and click the Summon Broodmother Button.

Basic Info

Appearance

The Broodmother Lysrix is a giant Arachnid with a base green body on Easy, orange on Medium, and red on Hard, and dark orange or brown legs. The Broodmother has two viciously large fangs seemingly dripping with venom. Large spikes can be seen on the abdomen. The Broodmother shares a similar appearance with the Araneos.

The Broodmother Lysrix always spawns with the same color scheme and has no color regions.

This means it is currently impossible to make alterations to the Broodmother Lysrix's colors.

In-game appearance and relative size

It is suggested in the Spider dossier that the Broodmother is the queen and parent of the island's spiders.

Location

The Broodmother can only be found in the Broodmother Arena or in The Center Arena. To reach this location, players must go to either a Beacon or Obelisk and place the required tribute items inside, then click on the Broodmother Portal Generate Broodmother Portal or Center Portal item. At this point a portal will be opened to teleport nearby players and dinos into the arena.

Wild Stats Level-up

Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]

Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.

Combat

This section describes how to fight against the Broodmother Lysrix.

General

The Broodmother Lysrix is a dangerous enemy. It spawns many baby spiders (Araneos) as minions. It has a lot of health, but it is possible to defeat it using high-end gear. Use tribe members or even players from other tribes to help deal quick and massive amounts of damage. Any strategy should work, but there are certain guidelines.

Strategy

It is completely up to the players on how to defeat the Broodmother Lysrix. Firepower from guns and rockets can be used to deal big blasts of damage. Use weaponry that does not have a long reload time, as the Broodmother battle is all about suppressing the Broodmother and killing it before you run out of supplies or living players. Explosives can also harm the Broodmother to great effect. Any of these options can be used against the smaller Araneo minions the Broodmother conjures and sends after the players. Also, bring Stimulants to counter the venomous attacks of the Araneo minions. Another strategy to use would be to swarm it with smaller dinos like Carbonemys, then move in for the kill on powerful dinosaurs like Rex or even Carnotaurus.

Weaponry

Ranged weapons are recommended, to avoid the Broodmother's melee attacks. Getting close will subject the player to entanglement in webbing and then dispatching via the Broodmother. Use powerful weaponry and a strategy all at once. If one element is not present, the fight can turn into a tragic struggle for survival.

Dangers

The Broodmother spawns 10-20 Araneos at a time while in battle. The Broodmother sprays venom and webs to slow and damage enemies(players and attacking creatures). Exercise caution at all times in which it is alive. Do not allow the Broodmother to get ground on you or your tribe, as it has very good melee attacking capabilities, and it will kill whatever it can get its claws on.

Weakness

Any method will have its ups and downs, but the Broodmother battle is always the same. There is no real weakness the Broodmother sports. It is simply a gigantic spider with high health and powerful damage output. It cannot fly or swim well, so, for whatever reason, those facts may be important in a battle. As long as the players stick to a strategy, the Broodmother should be defeated if all goes well.

Notes/Trivia

  • Until patch 183.0 the Broodmother was actually tameable. However, this was removed from the game and in current versions, the Broodmother is not tameable with regular methods.
  • After killing the Broodmother the first time, many players like to re-summon her in order to farm Chitin from the Spider Minions she summons (this was more common and easier prior to v239.0).
  • Her original dossier was actually written in Daedric writing from The Elder Scrolls series. It translates to a text that appears to be written in Latin, but in fact turns out to be the so-called "Lorem Ipsum", a common filler text used for publishing and graphics design.
  • On The Center the broodmother and megapithecus are spawnable after killed but only last 15 minutes so take advantage.[citation needed]
