The Cannon is a stationary turret used to fire Cannon Ball Cannon Ball. It is used for siege warfare and is also effective for taming Titanosaur Titanosaur, Karkinos Karkinos, and Rock Elemental Rock Elemental. The cannon can be placed on Platform Saddles.

Usage[]

To aim the cannon, the degrees of attack can be changed in 5% steps. There is little to no real time control, making it very difficult to hit a moving target. Using a dino with a platform saddle can compensate for this, using the dino to aim the cannon for you. For example, a Quetzal with a cannon on the platform can be aimed by the rider while a partner fires it, helping somewhat with smaller targets.

Ammunition is lightweight for a cannon of that size (it is approximately the length of a long 24 pounder but shows a much greater diameter) but still heavy enough that a player will be overburdened by only a few Cannon Balls. A key problem with using the cannon will be moving ammunition to it. Cannon Balls do not stack.

While the cannon's projectiles are less damaging than a Rocket Launcher, they cannot be shot down by defending Auto Turrets or Plant Species X. This means the cannon can safely damage enemy structures directly without having to eliminate other defenses first.

It is possible to fire the cannon from directly in front of it. However, this will heavily damage you, instantly killing an unarmored Survivor.

Unbeknownst to most players, the cannon can also be used to quickly tame several of the game's larger animals, many of which would normally require many tranqs. This effectively makes the cannon the ideal taming weapon for endgame tribes who can afford to craft many cannonballs, with its torpor application surpassing that of even an ascendant Longneck Rifle.

Notes[]

  • The Cannon is treated as a wooden structure and can not be damaged by hands, stone weapons, or non-explosive ranged attacks.
  • The following aggressive creatures can not damage the Cannon:
