Basic Info
Dossier
This section is intended to be an exact copy of what the survivor Helena Walker, the author of the dossiers, has written. There may be some discrepancies between this text and the in-game creature.
- Wild
It was always hypothesized that a member of the Tardigrada phylum would be the last species on Earth in the event of a global apocalypse, so in some ways, the existence of Mopsechiniscus fluitobesus is completely expected. Its size and method of travel, however? Less so.
Mopsechiniscus is slow and ineffective in a fight, so to survive, it tends to choose flight - literally. First, it inflates itself like a balloon, briefly slowing down and gaining durability. Then it launches itself into the air by expelling gas through a series of sphincters in its underbelly, which it also uses to slow its descent.
Yes, it's as...unusual as it sounds, but Mopsechiniscus makes the most of its inflatable nature. In addition to jumping, it can use its stored up gases to push back aggressors, or even float on water.
- Domesticated
While a poor steed in battle, Mopsechiniscus is a fantastic beast of burden. The hairs on its back let a single rider steer it without a saddle, and it carries an incredible amount of cargo for its size. A small caravan of these could see us swimming in resources in no time.
Behavior
It acts Docile towards players and will attempt to scare away predators by puffing itself up.
Appearance
It looks similar in appearance to a plump caterpillar with a wide, bulbous body that is divided into four segments. It walks on six short, plump legs. Its head is small and features a beak, oval shaped eyes and two horn-like antennae with a small patch of fur between them. The front-most segment of its body is wrinkled around the head and appears to have a course patch of fur. Its back is dappled sparsely with what appear to be small, round armor plates. On its belly it appears to have a black and luminescent blue patch of wrinkly skin from which it ejects gas inhaled from the air.
Color Scheme and Regions
This section displays the Gasbags's natural colors and regions. For demonstration, the regions below are colored red over an albino Gasbags. The colored squares shown underneath each region's description are the colors that the Gasbags will randomly spawn with to provide an overall range of its natural color scheme. Hover your cursor over a color to display its name and ID.
This information can be used to alter the Gasbags's regions by entering cheat SetTargetDinoColor <ColorRegion> <ColorID>
in the cheat console. For instance, cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6
would color the Gasbags's "back stripe" magenta.

Wild Stats Level-up
Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]
The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps
Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.
Combat
This section describes how to fight against the Gasbags.
General
Gasbags are typically docile creatures unless attacked, and will flee rather quickly by jetting away.
Strategy
Any hunting strategy will do to bring down a Gasbags. Their only response will be to flee.
Weaponry
Since a Gasbags will try to flee from an attacking player, ranged weapons such as the Crossbow and the Longneck Rifle are advised.
Dangers
Gasbags will sometimes bite the player with very low damage. Although, their only danger is, should they puff up and jet you with their gas, you may land next to more dangerous creatures. Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
Weakness
When frozen they lose all damage reduction.

Note that the values are for optimal cases, always bring extra supplies!
For a level-dependent count of resources needed, try an external taming calculator.
Preferred Food
While mejoberries are effective, they will tame faster with advanced crops.
KO Strategy
There are several ways of knocking out Gasbags.
- Luring it into an enclosed trap made of mostly ceilings and doorframes. This may either require Rare Flower, or Giant Honey.
- Throwing a bola at it and firing tranquilizing shots.
It is worth noting that Gasbags are more prone to being knocked out while they are not inflated. There are several ways of deflating Gasbags while its inhaling air.
- Freezing it with either Snow Owl, Managarmr or Ice Titan (Titans will most definitely kill it however)
- Shooting a projectile at its face.
Should it be successful at deflating the air, it will immediately jump up in shock rather than blasting its stored air upwards.
Utility
Roles
Abberation Bus - This animal can be transferred to the "Abberation" map. In combination with cryopod, it makes it easy to search for drops and leave the map. In addition, in the presence of a large amount of oxygen, you can fully navigate the map, carrying a huge amount of resources. Moreover, in some cases Gasbags is even better than a Rock Drake. Gasbags can rise vertically upwards. Managarmr is also able to climb high - but it does not curl in the air, and cannot correct its flight. For improvement - Only oxygen (For comfort fly - more 11000-13000 oxygen).
Pack Mule - The Gasbags will be used to transport materials in the field and back to base. An example would be if you are collecting Metal and you have no tames but your Gasbags, in which case you could load it up and take it around whilst farming Metal as it seems it will be able to carry a substantial amount, surpassing the Quetzal's weight capacity by a large amount as a base number. There are three stats to consider leveling on a Gasbags based on your needs: Some oxygen is essential to allow the Gasbags to fly for much longer periods of time without potential landings in hostile territory. Movement speed actually increases the flight speed of the Gasbags which will allow it to fly faster. In unison with leveling oxygen, this can allow the Gasbags to reach crazy lengths of flight. Leveling weight sounds appealing but should only be done as a luxury; the weight increase per level is very small. If you're in a hostile environment and are subject to being harassed on the move, consider some health as well.
Note: The Gasbags will not take fall damage from falling unless it is very low or empty on gas. The Gasbags can always be dismounted before hitting the ground to negate the fall damage. In the event that dismounting is impossible, the most damage that the Gasbags can take from fall damage is about 40% of its max health.
Tank - When bloated with air, the Gasbags takes 80% less damage making it useful for tanking bosses, taming, and raids. The Gasbags can also be equipped with a saddle to further increase the damage reduction.

Spotlight
Notes/Trivia
- In the teaser video for the Gasbags, it can be seen carrying multiple players.
- Gasbags and Basilisk ties at second best non-titan beast-of-burden creatures, only overshadowed by Titanosaur.
- The Gasbags cannot sprint, however it technically doesn't need to be able to sprint, as it's 'flying' capabilities make it redundant; in other words, it sacrifices small, precise movement for the ability to traverse long distances very quickly.
