The Shag Rug is decorative floor covering in the Aberration DLC for ARK: Survival Evolved. After placing it, you can doodle on it with a paintbrush, or load a custom image into it. Usually images are created externally to Ark and then loaded into the canvas, as the quality is much better. See Painting for more information.

Construction[]

The Shag Rug (Aberration) does not require a foundation for placement, and as such does not interfere with the spawning of natural resources. It does not snap to other structures.

Care must be taken during placement as the texture of the terrain underneath can protrude through the rug itself.

It is possible to place multiple rugs adjacently such that the borders of the actual rug areas touch, so that larger 'multi-rug' artworks can be created by loading each rug with an image that is a slice from the larger picture.

Loading and Saving Custom Images[]

To load Ark PNT files into a Painting Canvas, the file name must be suffixed with _Rug_Shag_BP_C. The resolution is 256x256, and the aspect ratio in-game is 1:1.33.

Notes[]

  • The Shag Rug (Aberration) is treated as a thatch structure and can be damaged by anything except non-explosive ranged attacks.

Painting and Color Regions[]

In addition to its preset paint regions, you can doodle on the Shag Rug by "attacking" it with a Paintbrush Paintbrush, which will open the "Apply Paint" Menu. Then, click and drag your cursor over the 3D model (like a paintbrush) to draw anything you want. See Painting for more information on doodling.

For more information on Paint Regions and how to use them, please view the Blue Coloring Dye, Paintbrush Paintbrush, or Spray Painter Spray Painter pages.
